Dan Rather born (Daniel Irvin Rather Jr.) is an American journalist and former national evening News anchor. He started his career in Texas. He then created the first radar weather report by overlaying a transparent map over a radar image of Hurricane Carla.

He was then he was promoted at CBS News, where he served as White House correspondent beginning in 1964. He served as a foreign correspondent in London and Vietnam over the next two years before returning to the White House correspondent position.

He moved to New York City in early 1962 for a six-month trial with CBS News. On June 20, 2006,  Rather left CBS News, before his November contract expiration, ending a 44-year career with the network.
